aloft

upon a
mountain
we sat
souls dug in
good
upright

still as statues

while
smoke
& hot valley
whispers
tangoed up
tripping

wild as lightning

we stayed
as they
smothered
us &
prayed
for them

to cover us

  1. Thank you! Just read yours as well but was unable to comment. We can never truly go home, can we? Beautifully bittersweet

  3. Excellent - so brief but very descriptive. I love the sweep of the words here.

  4. I like the souls dug in line so much. As I read, I am thinking of the wildfires, the lightning, "smoke and hot valley whispers."

  5. Maybe humans are the only natural thing that can be so still. And nature moves on.

  6. "Good upright still as statues" yet "smoke and hot valley whispers were welcomed"? There seems to be an anomaly there or perhaps you are implying that there is no way to escape the downside of the world even if we try!

    1. Exactly. It takes superhuman strength to not just give in or give up

  7. Love the contrast: 'souls dug in' & 'smoke / & hot valley / whispers / tangoed up'...

  8. "wild as lightning
    we stayed
    as they
    smothered us"
very intriguing It feels like wanting to give in to temptations

  9. Nice - this is a meditation (of sorts). I can picture the scene.
