River, Marina Moevs, 2005
Inspired? Check out Magpie Tales

i ain't
going down
to the river
to pray
gonna build me
a fortress
gonna get
the hell away
getting my
ass off the grid
getting it
good and hid
no i ain't
going down
to the river
to pray

i ain't
going down
to wait
for no king
it's live free
or die here
all
or nothing
all i'm
serving is fish
it ain't
on no silver dish
no i ain't
going down
to wait
for no king

i ain't
going down
to the river to cry
left my
lover in the city
didn't even
say goodbye
pulled the
wool off my head
found i
was almost dead
no i ain't
going down
to the river
to cry

and i ain't
going back
to the city
to die

  3. Rivers are eccentric that way- they don't seem to mind if we arrive with nothing to say at all. No tears left to cry, empty hands and a list of what we will not, cannot do- the river takes it all. Washes it. Us.

  4. Talk about a declaration of independence and truth! You nailed this one, Rene. I appreciate the way you fully developed the character of one who lives off the grid.

  9. I started to hi-light my favorite passage but found myself almost hi-lighting the whole thing. The attitude and passion just flows from this. Thanks!

  15. Great riff on "Down to the river to pray", keeping to the simplicity and edge of that era, with a life atilt and plenty of firewood on the shore.
