ringing in the ears
has mined itself
into my brain
driving me
hell batty
speeding blindly
long distances
with obsessive
urgency
to a desert cave
where a way
was made
in the wasteland
near a river,
an answer
i am the receiver
the sole confessor
to them
the many
desolate thirsty
waterlogged anonymous

Love the last stanza....waterlogged souls = awesome
ReplyDeletewell done, ma'am
that ringing in the brain will def drive you crazy...glad there is a way for us waterlogged souls though...
ReplyDeleteOh, good one! Strong ending.
ReplyDeleteRinging in the ear like ten-speeding... I like that. The fast tempo is very effective, too.
ReplyDeleteI didn't own a ten speed bike until I was in my early 40s ... yes my ears would ring when I ventured out onto the open road ... thanks for the memories.
ReplyDelete"reluctantly yet urgently"
ReplyDeleteI know that feeling. It's a strange one.
A perfect blend of photography and poetry.
ReplyDeleteI think I am one of the waterlogged...
ReplyDeleteNice choice of words there!
=)
Yup - I'm probably a waterlogged one too!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, the Mojave telephone, the "waterlogged souls".......the urgency........so well done.
ReplyDeleteThat last stanza is not only lyrical, but also powerful. You are always an impressive penner, Rene!
ReplyDeleteInteresting Magpie with a strong message...
ReplyDeleteQuite good - love the distance this travels in a short distance.
ReplyDeleteNice flow and rhythm.
ReplyDeleteI'll be pondering thirsty, waterlogged souls the rest of today...
ReplyDeleteAh, this is so fun. I'm here in Palm Desert, drive the Mojave often between here and Reno. You paint an accurate sense of place.
ReplyDeleteI am one of those receivers as well - "reluctant
ReplyDeleteurgency" is a perfect way to describe it.
Nicely penned !
ReplyDelete"with reluctant urgency" - that's my favourite line, maybe because I absolutely hate to be rushed.
ReplyDeletethe desolate, thirsty souls.
ReplyDeleteand I am one.
We are receivers. Beautifully put.
