reluctant october

how divinely you dance
around the thread
smiling, barely breathing
spinning secrets and
angelic half truths
into silken veils
without so much as a ripple
every vowel whispered
swallowed up and
held smartly, tightly
in your hot little grasp
a carrot dangled
over a bear trap heart

    The Bear's Opinion

    July's spinning silk
    becomes October's dreamy
    meditation on love
    afloat in the patch
    of late red berries.

    We eat
    ursine opinions
    we've gathered in haste,
in such a hurry now that
    winter approaches us
    with all its due speed.

Thank you all for commenting. I saw an actual (tiny, non-working) bear trap heart locket at a local gift shop and so I was inspired :)
