without red

taken away
from the room
taken away from the world
all too soon
yesterday's laughter
still echoes down hallways
not up to speed
with the news

and the red has all run
from her now
bled out in a river of earth
and the color of her lips
like fireplace ashes
the remains of a once burning hearth

2AM Poetry ~ Rene 2010

I must give credit to Mmm at Hot Toast And Jam for this post. It was actually inspired whilst commenting on his "Imagine A World Without Red" theme Thursday. I apologize for posting this so late and for the depressing tone of it, but really, a world without red would not be very cheery.
 Thanks Mmm!

I also would like to take this opportunity to sing the praises of simple things for the challenge on Enchanted Oak's blog. Again I am late to the party but I'd like to offer this Meaningful Nothingness post as my contribution for Haitian Relief.

Peace ~ Rene

  1. That had a sad feel to it but yet, I was mesmerized by it too. Does that make sense?

That's as far as I got. I had to stop there. I'll read the rest later, I promise.

btw, Jill's nickname was "Red"...so the title of this one was all it took to get me started.

  7. Rene, I love this. It's sad, but beautiful, and evokes deep feelings. This may sound strange, but I was just telling my mom that in an odd way, I like to go to funerals (not like Grandma Mazur, though), because of the emotions that stir within my soul. Thank you so much for this. You are going to be famous soon!

  8. Beautiful..

I love the idea of the world not yet caught up in the bad news. Such a vivid, realistic experience with death/tragedy.

  9. I don't think you could ever be late to a party. It doesn't start until you get there!

Beautiful poem. Haunting. A little sad, but beautiful.
    :-)

There was a haunting beauty behind her eyes, beyond her sorrow, a beauty that found its way into one’s heart and led them home.
